Blood and biohazard cleanup in a vehicle
After an accident, an assault, an illness or a death in a vehicle, the interior needs biohazard cleaning, not a car wash. An independent cleanup company can take care of it.

Why cars are hard
Small space, many layers
A car interior is mostly fabric and foam. Fluids soak through seat covers into cushions, through floor mats into carpet and padding, and into seat belts, gaps and vents. Some parts can be cleaned. Others, like a soaked seat cushion, may need to be removed and replaced.
If the vehicle was part of a police investigation, it may be held until it is released. Ask the investigating agency when and where you can collect it, and tell the cleanup company where the vehicle is.

Meanwhile
Before you call
- Don't drive the vehicle with contamination inside
- Keep the windows closed and the vehicle out of direct sun if you can
- Photograph the interior for your insurer
- Ask your auto insurer whether your policy covers interior cleanup or replacement parts
- Know where the vehicle is and who holds the keys
Price
What the price depends on
This site publishes no prices, because every job is different. The cleanup company prices it after it knows the details. These are the things that move the number:
- How large the affected area is, and how many rooms
- Whether fluids reached carpet pad, subfloor, drywall or framing, which then has to come out
- How much time has passed, and whether the heating or cooling system was running
- How much furniture and how many belongings are affected
- How much sealed waste has to be packed and taken away
- Access: stairs, narrow halls, a crawl space or a vehicle
Questions
Vehicle cleanup questions
Can the cleanup be done where the car is parked?
Often it can. Ask the company when you call; some prefer to move the vehicle.
Will my auto insurance pay?
It depends on your policy and what happened. Only your insurer can tell you. Ask before work begins.
Is it worth cleaning, or should the car be replaced?
That is a decision for you and, if a claim is involved, your insurer. The cleanup company can tell you which parts it would clean and which it would remove.
When you are ready
One call, and someone else takes this on
You don't have to clean this yourself, and you don't have to decide everything today. A short call is enough to ask questions and hear what the work would involve.
Talk to a cleanup company
The line puts you through to an independent biohazard cleanup company working in your ZIP code. Tell them what happened and where. You decide whether to hire them.
